This is a very good blog post by @TheAudioGeek. It’s the Pro Tools tutorial roundup. I wonder how he watched these all resources. By the way, this roundup is useful to choose which to watch to get started on Pro Tools. Thank you Jon.

Free : Pro Tools Quickstart Guide

Free : Pro Tools Quickstart Guide

Here’s another good & free resource for me to get started on Pro Tools after finished the Method One DVD. I knew about this free quickstart guide from someone via Twitter (sorry that I can’t remember who). I immediately signed up this website to get a free copy once I knew it. It’s just been available a few days ago. I got the password to download it.

The 32.3MB download package contains 164-pages PDF file of quickstart guide and Extra folder which has tutorial sessions inside. After having a quick look, I believe this must me useful for me.

Thanks Chris Bryant for this helpful resource.

Learn to use Markers & Timewarp in Cubase

March 20, 2009 2 comments

Markers & TimewarpThere are many useful tutorial in Audio.tutsplus.com and I picked up one to learn last night. It’s “How to Set Music to Film Using Markers & Timewarp in Cubase 4”. Actually it’s not only for Cubase4, it can be applied to Cubase SX3 and Nuendo 3 as well. I’ve no idea if it can be applied to SL/SE/Studio version.

I always use markers to mark positions in the session but I’ve never use Timewarp to lock tempo. It’s very helpful when making music for film, to match musical hit-point to movie.

A new book to help me get started using Pd

March 19, 2009 Leave a comment

I knew Pure Data (Pd) for a while and faced the same problem as many people who try to get started using Pd did, we don’t know where to start. Today, Peter Kirn of CDM writes about the new book, Programming Electronic Music in Pd, by Johannes Kreidler. Here’s what Johannes explains about his book.

Programming Electronic Music in PdLoadbang is designed for self-study, principally for composers. It begins with explanations of basic programming and acoustic principles then gradually builds up to the most advanced electronic music processing techniques. The book’s teaching approach is focused primarily on hearing, which we consider a faster and more enjoyable way to absorb new concepts than through abstract formulas.

Actually I’ve Peter Kirn’s Real World Digital Audio waiting in my read-list, but this book make me hesitate which one to read first 🙂
