Sound Design of Alice in Wonderland

March 15, 2010 1 comment

I’ve just watch Alice in Wonderland yesterday in 2D version. This video produced by SoundWorks Collection reveals that there are 2 different mixes, for 2D and 3D. Maybe I’ll find sometime to watch (and listen to) the 3D version.

Working with Video in Pro Tools

Working with Video in Pro Tools

I found these articles while googling to find out which video format I should use with Pro Tools. “Working with Video in Pro Tools” is article in Sound on Sound magazine, comprised of 3 parts published in Jan-Feb-Mar 2006 issued.

The first part in Jan 2006 is about video format to use with Pro Tools and how to playback video file in Pro Tools session, together with briefly explanation about OMF. OMF was explained for more detail in the second part of these article in Feb 2006. To import OMF into Pro Tools was explained in this part as well. The last part in March 2006 talked about how to organize audio files in Pro Tools session after OMF importing. Some audio post-production basics were also explained, such as sound effect syncing, M&E tracks and Foley.

Need for Speed ProStreet : E3 2007 Nissan GT-R Proto Trailer
Original VDO :
Created : mid of 2007

I can’t remember when I worked on this video, possibly mid of 2007, before the launch of Need for Speed ProStreet. I’ve been Nissan fan for a while. This trailer interested me because of Nissan GTR but the soundtrack was not that interesting. So I decided to start the makeover, though I was not s composer.

I created the new soundtrack on Nuendo3. Drum and bass loops were from Stylus RMX. Some noise was made by freeware, I can’t remember which one, maybe TAL U-NO-60. I recorded 1-chord-riff guitar tracks with Squire Stratocaster direct into computer, NI Guitar Rig was used as guitar amp.

Matthew Wood : Supervising Sound Editor at Skywalker

I’ve just watched these 2 videos from Actually there should be 3 parts of this interview but there’re only 2 so far. It’s Matthew Wood, Supervising Sound Editor at Skywalker Sound, talked about his career. He also talked about gears he used. Many things he used in his early day I’ve never known before. That because I grew up in digital age.

In the second part of this interview, Wood talked more about his role for Wall-E which he worked together with Ben Burtt, and for Star Wars : The Clone Wars. These are interesting videos for those who are interested in sound design for animation and game.

Steve Vai : Where The Wild Things Are

This is the upcoming Steve Vai’s concert film, Where The Wild Things Are, which will be released on Sep 29, 2009. It is hi-def 720p with 5.1 surround sound. Personally, I’m not a fan of Steve Vai’s music. But I realize his performance is great and his skill is godlike. What I like most in Steve Vai is his sense of sound design. Many guitarists know how to make noise and feedback, but there’re only some of them know how to use it as a part of their music effectively. Vai knows. (so does Tom Morello)

Live Music : Animated Short Film

I love animation. But this animated short film interests me more because it’s about music and musical instruments. Moreover, it features Steve Vai on guitar and Ann Marie Calhoun on violin. Live Music will be attached to another animated feature which I’m waiting to watch, Planet 51. Hope both of them will be available in Thailand.
